Windies Beat Afghanistan In Opening T20 International

West Indies comfortably defeated Afghanistan at Warner Park in St Kitts on Friday night to take a 1-0 lead in their three match Twenty20 series. Electing to bat, Afghanistan were dismissed for just 110.

Rashid Khan scored a vital 33 and Amir Hamza 21 to help rescue the visitors from an even more embarrassing score after they were 58- 8.

Player of the Match Sunil Narine 3-11, captain Carlos Brathwaite 2-16 and Kesrick Williams 2-19 were the pick of the Windies bowlers .  Set 111 to win, the West Indies reached their target in 16.3 overs.

Marlon Samuels rode his luck to topscore with 35 from 36 balls while fellow Jamaican Chadwick Walton got 22 from 15 and Evin Lewis 26 from 16. Captain Brathwaite assessed the team’s overall effort.

“Very professional with the ball for the first fifteen or so overs; I think we could have finished a bit better but in the game of cricket you don’t always roll over for a small score; there’s always a partnership.

With the bat, I think we could have been a little more clinical  but we’ll use this as the base and look for improvement in the next two games to come,” said Brathwaite.

Fast bowler Shapoor Zadran ended pick of Afghanistan’s bowlers with 2-26.
