IN RESPONSE to the challenges his fledgling Jamaica Labour Party administration faces involving very difficult economic and social issues, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has opted to employ a political device popular during British colonial rule.
I refer to the creation of a special commission to review for speedy resolution a problem Jamaica seems to have as a member state of Caricom which it helped establish back in 1973 to advance this regionâs economic integration movement, with the aim of functional cooperation and the pursuit of a common foreign policy. Itâs the sovereign right of all independent states of the Caribbean Community to undertake a review of the benefits and challenges of membership of Caricom.
