Maxi-taxi drivers operating along the Port of Spain/Arima route say they too are fearful of being robbed in the Beetham Gardens area. This after bus drivers refused to operate along the Priority Bus Route (PBR) on Monday, citing safety concerns in light of last Thursdayâs protest by Beetham residents. Several red-band maxi drivers told the Express they have been targeted by bandits in the Beetham and Laventille areas, making them fearful of plying their trade. One driver recounted a tale of being held up at gunpoint and robbed of his dayâs earnings in the vicinity of Pashley Street, Laventille, some three years ago. He said he was still traumatised by the incident.
